Grassrootz powers Perth’s Telethon to a fundraising record

2017 marked the 50th Perth Telethon. Since its inception in 1968, Telethon has raised over $268m, becoming the highest fundraising telethon (per capita) in the world.  “Telethon is in the DNA of West Australians”, said Executive Chairman of Seven Group Holdings, Mr Kerry Stokes AC.

The money raised through Telethon helps make advances in treating life-threatening childhood diseases and provides equipment, resources and critical services for children across Western Australia.

In 2017, Telethon raised a record $36,431,381, with innovative Australian start-up Grassrootz as the official online and call centre fundraising solution.

Grassrootz was chosen by the team at Telethon to replace the previous fundraising platform due to the quality and reliability of the Grassrootz product; the ease of use on mobile; Grassrootz’ integration with Salesforce; and the agility and excellent support from the Grassrootz team.

“We are very grateful to the Grassrootz team who helped us to achieve this outstanding result,” said Telethon CEO, Steve Mummery.  “They have excelled in delivering an effective, easy to use product, with a minimum of fuss, in what were tight timelines.  Plus the money was in our bank account within two days.”, he said.

“One of the reasons we chose Grassrootz was the delightful experience Grassrootz provides on mobile”, said Mummery.  “Over 80% of online donations came on a mobile device this year, so our decision to switch to Grassrootz really paid off”, said Mummery.

Grassrootz also enabled Perth’s Telethon to process incredibly large transaction volumes. “We were processing upwards of 300 donations per second, and the Grassrootz solution performed seamlessly”, said Jock Davidson, Database Manager at Telethon. “The data is exported directly into Salesforce, providing us with additional reporting and marketing capabilities to help us to do more in future”, said Davidson.

“Grassrootz is proud to be the official online fundraising platform for the Channel 7 Telethon Trust”, said Ben Graetz, Grassrootz CEO.  “To be a part of the 50th Telethon celebration and play a critical role in helping Telethon raise an incredible $36.4 million is very humbling. We are delighted with the increase in fundraising that will benefit such great causes in the child health arena, and we are honoured to be welcomed into the Telethon family”, said Graetz.

“We were thrilled with Grassrootz, both their technology and customer service were world-class”, said Mummery. I look forward to watching Grassrootz become another successful Australian start-up story.”
